BOD Election 2021

April 13, 2021

Dear Parents, Faculty and Staff:

Brashier Middle College Charter High School is a model charter school in the state of South Carolina whose mission is to provide a supportive, educational environment where each student is expected to seize the opportunity to graduate prepared for college and career. Our school is governed by a Board of Directors, elected by the parents/guardians and staff, who work to uphold the mission and charter of our school, determine strategic direction, maintain legal and regulatory compliance, oversee student achievement, and manage the school's resources. We are looking for qualified candidates from our school and community to run in the annual Board of Directors' election to be held online from Sunday, May 2, 2021 through Sunday, May 9, 2021 by 12:00 noon. Each staff member will receive one vote while each family receives one vote per child currently enrolled in BMCCHS. I am asking you to take an active part in this process by considering candidacy and being an informed voter.

According to South Carolina Charter law and our by-laws, the current board may have a limited number of appointed members to meet specific needs of the board. Our board appoints three members and eight are elected for a total of eleven on the board. To maintain continuity on the board, each elected member will serve a two-year term. Four of our current elected board members will continue to serve their second year, and we will elect four new members this election cycle to serve two years. Board members are required to attend at least 75% of the regular monthly meetings, serve on assigned committees, attend school events whenever possible, and assist with fundraising. Our board meetings typically last between one and two hours on the second Monday of each month.

All interested candidates must agree to a South Carolina Law Enforcement (SLED) background check and complete the Filing Application for Election to the Board of Directors. In order for a candidate's name to be printed on the ballot, the deadline for the completed online application is Monday, April 26 by 3:30 PM. In the event that an online application is not available to a candidate, a paper copy will be available at the front desk and must be submitted before the deadline. Write-in candidates are also allowed during voting.

Information from the applications along with the introduction videos will be shared with parents and faculty. The candidate biographies and videos along with a sample ballot will be made available April 28, 2021 on the Brashier website.

Thank you for supporting our school and its promising future by your involvement in this election process.

Sincerely,

Keith McNeel

BMCCHS Board of Directors Chairman
