BOD Election 2018

March 23, 2018

Dear Parents, Faculty and Staff:

Brashier Middle College Charter High School is a model charter school in the state of South Carolina whose mission is to create a community where students strive for higher levels of learning.  Our school is governed by a Board of Directors, elected by the parents/guardians and staff, who work to uphold the mission and charter of our school, determine strategic direction, maintain legal and regulatory compliance, oversee student achievement, and manage the school's resources. We are looking for qualified candidates from our school and community to run in the annual Board of Directors' election to be held online from Sunday evening, May 6 through Monday, May 14 at 4:00.  Each staff member will receive one vote while each family receives one vote per child currently enrolled in BMCCHS. I am asking you to take an active part in this process by considering candidacy and being an informed voter.

According to South Carolina Charter law and our by-laws, the current board may have a limited number of appointed members to meet specific needs of the board.  Our board appoints three members and eight are elected for a total of eleven on the board. In order to maintain some continuity on the board, each elected member will serve a two-year term.  Four of our current board members will continue to serve their second year. We will elect four new members this election cycle to serve two years. Board members are required to attend at least 75% of the regular monthly meetings, serve on assigned committees, attend school events whenever possible, and assist with fundraising.  Our board meetings typically last between one and two hours on the second Monday of each month.

All interested candidates must agree to a background check and complete the Filing Application for Election to the Board of Directors.  In order for a candidate's name to be printed on the ballot, the completed online application must be submitted no later than 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 23.  The link to the online application will be found on the school's website beginning March 23.  A list of information and questions required for the application are also included on the page to allow candidates to prepare answers before completing the application.  In the event that an online application is not available to a candidate, a paper copy will be available at the front desk and must be submitted before the deadline. Write-in candidates are also allowed during voting.

Information from the applications will be shared with parents and faculty.  A sample ballot and candidate bios will be made available April 25. Parents and faculty may meet the candidates Monday evening, April 30, from 5:30 to 6:30.  All pertinent dates for the election are listed at the end of this letter.

Thank you for supporting our school and its promising future by your involvement in this election process.

Sincerely,

John Trone

BMC Board of Directors, Chair
